Daimler's line-up of vehicles consisted of six-cylinder engines until the mid-1920s, when the Double Six came onto the scene. It was designed by their chief engineer, Laurence H. Pomeroy. It used a similar design to the six-cylinder engine, which consisted of two-sets of three cylinders.

The Daimler Double Six was a series of luxury cars that were introduced for the 1973 model year. Previously, the Double Six name had been used by Daimler for a range of V12 engined luxury cars, but this new iteration of the Double Six saw the name used for what were largely rebadged V12-engined Jaguar XJs.
